What Is Coaching?

Coaching is a both a relationship and a tool.  In coaching you will identify what isn’t working in your life and develop solutions and strategies so that you can close the gap between where you want to be and where you are now.  There are many ways to approach problems, and that is why we, at Coached Living, develop many ways for coaching to take place.

What’s the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy?

The focus in therapy is on the past. The therapist helps you gain insight into the attitudes and behaviors that you developed in your past and come to understand how they have impacted your life. The focus is on healing and closure. The Coaching focus is on recognizing that your attitudes and behaviors have affected the way you conduct your life and focuses on the present. Using a collaborative approach, the coach helps you discover what you would like for your life as you move forward and helps you develop plans and strategies on how to get there. The client always drives the process and the coach acts as a guide.

How Does Coaching Work?

Individual Coaching is conducted primarily on the phone, but exceptions can be made for those individuals who are local. I like for individual clients to commit to one 45 minute session per week and for couples to commit to one 90 minute session per week initially. As you progress we will revisit this schedule and determine the schedule that best suits your needs. It is not unusual for clients to move to 2-3 sessions per month at this point. I request that you send me a call strategy form prior to each appointment which helps you decide where you would like the session to go. Since you drive the process, you decide what you would like to work on. As your coach, I will make suggestions, requests, and with your permission, assign fieldwork. I encourage and welcome email between sessions.

How Do I Choose a Coach?

Choosing a coach is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It is important that you trust the coach and that the two of you truly like each other and feel that you would like to take this journey together. It is for this reason that I offer a 30 minute session without charge. During this session we can get to know each other a bit and decide whether I am the best coach for you.
